Youth Ministry News – Week of May 20, 2012

In just a week we will be heading out for Six Flags with the Junior High and in two weeks we will be going to Houston with the High School. It is a busy time of year.

Having said that, I need to get the rest of the money for those two trips. The Six Flags trip cost $130 total and Opportunity Camp is $145. With both of these trips, I need medical release forms.

This Wednesday we will have our last time with huddles for the year. We will also have our huddle appreciation dinner at 6:30.

MIA will be June 17-20 and will be for those in the Junior High. Last year it cost $65, which will be close to the cost for this year as well. When I know for sure, I will pass that information along.

Good morning University and good morning Buffs!

Summer is here…at least for the college folk! Students, we will be meeting the next two Wednesday evenings at 7 PM at Conner Park for Bible Study. Wow, God is good. How about that weather last Wednesday!

University, please be praying for the students that are away working or doing internships this summer. Please also be praying for our students who will be traveling in June and July to our supporting congregations. Students, here is the tentative schedule. Please remember how important it is for the Bible Chair, and how encouraging it is for our supporting congregations, when YOU come along to help lead a service or simply say “thank you!”

Summer is quickly coming and with the warm air comes much traveling. Coming up are two big events – Six Flags and Opportunity Camp.

Six Flags is May 28-30. The total cost is $130. After the deposit you should only have $60 left. I will give you all the information you will need soon.

Opportunity Camp is June 2-9th. The total cost is $145 ($70 after deposit). We are having a mandatory meeting on Wednesday the 16th at 6 in the fellowship hall. Make sure you are there. I will be giving important information on the day as well as getting the material ready. Depending on how things go, we may also need to meet Sunday the 20th.

MIA is coming up on June 17-20. More info soon, but save the dates now.

Baby Bottle Campaign

In honor of our mothers and fathers, we will be distributing baby bottles to benefit CareNet Pregnancy Centers. You may pick up your bottle as you leave, fill it with change and return it to the church by Father’s Day (June 17th). CareNet serves as a Pro-Life Christian Ministry in our community promoting premarital abstinence by equipping parents and teens to live lives of purpose, ministering to women in unplanned pregnancies and providing life support to women and families through education and resources.

Celebrating Becky Hallmark!

Buffs for Christ is hosting a grand celebration on Saturday May 26th from 2-5 PM for Becky Hallmark. Becky has served as the secretary for the WT Church of Christ Bible Chair for 18 years. Dr. James Hallmark, Becky’s husband, recently accepted the position of Vice Chancellor of the Texas A&M System, and the Hallmarks are moving to College Station.

Everyone is invited, especially WT alumni who experienced life at the Bible Chair with Becky in charge as secretary. No RSVP necessary, simply come to the Bible Chair in Canyon, TX on May 26th for food and fun; please note a semi-formal time of reflecting and thanksgiving will take place at 3:30 PM.

Praise God for Becky Hallmark, for the lives she has changed, and for the legacy she leaves.

What a wonderful family you are. Your loving concern and care have encouraged and inspired John and me the past several years. I’ve been humbled by all the ways you’ve touched our lives, including the calls, visits, cards, and finally the lovely meals both at home and church for our family. University Church of Christ was always there to support our mother, Mary Richey, in life and now you have shown your continued support of her family after her death. We so much appreciate your calls, cards and personal support during this difficult time. Special thanks to mother’s ladies Sunday school class, Hilltoppers and to those who prepared and served the meal after the memorial service. Also thanks to David Lough and Bob Shepard for their support and leadership role in the memorial service. You showed us what true Christian love can and should be. University Church of Christ will always hold a special place in our hearts.
